A setup.
Then the plot twist.
Put expectation next to reality, or give your joke a second frame. Use stacked panels or switch to side by side.
Start with a good setup.
Pick a template. The punchline is yours.
A little editing magic.
Use your own photosPNG, JPG, WebP · Up to 10 MB each.
Photos stay in this browser.
A clean export. Your punchline gets the whole stage.
Build a clear two-panel joke
The first panel establishes the expectation. The second changes it. Keep captions parallel so the comparison is easy to scan. Use Image 1 for the first panel and Image 2 for the second, then choose Fit image to preserve the full picture or Fill panel to crop it.
Stacked panels put the image to the right of each caption. Side-by-side panels put captions above the images. Check the preview after changing the canvas ratio; long text may wrap differently.
Your photos stay yours
Choose an image from your device. Cropping, text, and export happen in your browser; your photos are not uploaded to an editing service.
Five ways to tell the joke
Use stacked panels, side-by-side comparisons, classic image captions, chat bubbles, or a clean poster. Switch square, portrait, and landscape sizes.
Made to leave the editor
Export a high-resolution PNG or JPG without a watermark. Save text and settings as a draft on this device, then pick up where you left off.
A few good questions.
Is CaptionSprout really free?
Yes. The editor and image exports are free. There is no subscription or account requirement, and CaptionSprout does not add a watermark.
Can I upload my own image?
Yes. Use Image 1 or Image 2 for PNG, JPG, or WebP files under 10 MB and 30 megapixels. Images are processed in this browser. You need permission to use the photos you choose.
What size is the exported meme?
Square exports are 1080 × 1080 pixels, landscape exports are 1200 × 675, and portrait exports are 1080 × 1350. The canvas selector changes the output, not just the preview.
What gets saved in a draft?
Your captions, template, and editor settings are saved in local browser storage. Uploaded photos are not saved. Restore a draft on the same browser and re-add your photos if needed.
Can I make GIFs or videos?
This version makes static PNG and JPG images. It does not create animated GIFs or videos.
Can I use the built-in templates commercially?
The original illustrations are offered under CC0 1.0. Your uploads keep their own rights and license. Read the artwork terms.
